Memories

Memories are fascinating and intriguing.

My mom used to have an old book lying around the bookshelf in the living room. It had a blue-ish grey hard cover and the binding was cracking from age. Some of the pages looked as if mold had grown on the book at some point.

One random summer day, either out of curiosity or boredom, I picked up the book and cracked its aging, dusty cover open. The book was called “Gone with the wind“.

For the next few days, my mind was captivated by a Civil War themed era book written by Margaret Mitchell. It amazed me how a character’s mindset from a book written in 1936 could be similar to mine in the 21st century.

Scarlett is the definition of a free thinking, independent woman. She was ahead of her time but would fit right in nowadays. She was a rare gem in her time. I can easily relate to that.

I’m an independent and self-made woman. I’ve always paid my own way and taken care of myself. There are a lot of woman out there like me. However, there are plenty of gold diggers and mooches out there to give women a bad reputation.

I want to re-read that book now. Reading it reminds me of my childhood. It’s a happy memory and I don’t have a lot of those.

If you find a copy, it’s worth the time it takes to read it.
